2009 Petite Verdot Ranchita Canyon Vineyard
INNER CIRCLE
I often call Petite Verdot the Petite Sirah of the north (as in France). Traditionally used to improve color and tannin structure in Bordeaux blends, it fell out of favor in France because it was such a late ripener (and often did not ripen fully). In contrast, the warmer climates of the new world, for instance Paso Robles, show much more promise for this interesting varietal. Grown on the steep limestone slopes of Ranchita Canyon Vineyard, this is another master creation of grower Bill Hinrichs. Dark, brooding and tannic, this intense wine can be enjoyed with strong foods or can be cellared for several years to come.
