08 Colibri Syrah

A cold snap in the spring of 2008 stunted and damaged the Syrah at Colibri Vineyards for the 2008 vintage. While owner Bob Johnson wasn’t happy with his Syrah yields that year, we were very happy with the nice, developed fruit that resulted from his misfortune. This small bottling, a 50/50 blend of clones 174 & 99, showcases Arizona Syrah at its best. It’s not the big, fleshy Syrah you might expect from a “desert” state. The 5200 elevation of this vineyard tempers the grapes, giving the wines more structure and subtlety while still allowing for compeling, concentrated fruit characters.
