07 Carriage Vineyards Syrah – Allier
As we tasted through the Carriage Syrah lot we came upon four barrels all crafted by the master Cooper Francois Freres; three from specific French forests and one made with oak from Hungary. Joe and I had the same idea: we had to bottle those four barrels separately as a study in oak. This wine has a core of black cherry and Thai basil with notes of bitter cocoa riding on a soft, broad palate. Try all four side-by-side! Allier — Subtle, well-integrated vanilla cream on the nose and palate with hints of butterscotch
