05 Lockwood Oaks Vineyard Syrah

The Lockwood Oaks Vineyard sits within the San Antonio Valley, which was just recently granted AVA status in California. Typified by chalky, ancient lakebed soils, hot summers and cooler nights, this is an ideal area to grow Rhone varietals. Only our second vintage working with fruit from this vineyard, we are just starting to understand it. Although each year is different, Lockwood Oaks consistently produces one of the softest Syrahs in our cellar. Incredibly pleasing with round, purple fruits and sweet oak notes, Lockwood Oaks stands well on its own. These two barrels represent the finest of the batch and the ones we feel speak of the vineyard, the growers and the AVA.
